It's a wonderful thing when you read a book and loved it so much then saw it done on screen almost exactly the way you had imagined it. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Män Som Hatar Kvinnor) is one of those treats.
The plot: A disgraced journalist is hired to solve a 40 year old murder. Unable to unravel the mystery he seeks help from a mentally disturbed computer hacker/mathematical genius (the girl). Together they unearth more gore than they bargain for.
I would have enjoyed the film a little more if I didn't already know the outcome at the end. It's a murder mystery after all. But I would still read the book first. There are many details they did not include in the film. For instance, at the end the girl suddenly left the journalist. They made it appear that she ran away to protect herself; she did not want attachment. But that is not the case in the book. In fact, she had already fallen in love with him. The real reason she left was.... read the book and find out
The bad ass Noomi Rapace is the perfect cast for the role of Lisbeth "The Girl", flat chested and all . Though, I had imagined the journalist a little more geeky and less handsome. But still, Michael Nyqvist did a fantastic job as Blomkvist.
A little about "The Girl" series: Swedish author Stieg Larsson had plan to write a 10 book series on "The Girl" but sadly he only completed 3 before he died, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played with Fire", "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest", which became known as "The Millenium" trilogy. The first two has been translated to English.
I highly recommend The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo the film and the book.
